- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of melted butter, 1 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until smooth. Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, then mix in 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
- Press half of the prepared dough into the bottom of the lined baking pan.
- Spread a layer of caramel sauce over the dough, followed by a layer of chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the layers, covering as much surface area as possible.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before lifting out and slicing into squares.
