Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef with salt, pepper, and any optional spices. Form into uniform meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions, cook until golden brown, about 20-30 minutes.
  3. Pour in beef broth after onions caramelize, simmer for 10 minutes to thicken.
  4. Gently nestle meatballs into the skillet, cover and cook for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over meatballs, cover and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until cheese melts.
  6. Plate meatballs with sauce, serve hot with optional fresh herbs.
